Frequently Asked Questions
What type of businesses do you work with?
I work with small to medium-sized businesses across a variety of industries and locations. Whether you’re a start-up needing HR foundations or a more established company looking to update policies and improve employee engagement, I can support you. I am based in York but regularly work with businesses in all corners of the UK.
Do you offer ad-hoc HR support or only retained services?
Both. Some clients prefer ongoing retained HR support for peace of mind, while others just need help with a one-off project such as a disciplinary, redundancy process, or updating contracts and policies. We will always discuss the options and agree what works best for your business.
What HR documents can you provide?
I can draft and review contracts of employment, design bespoke branded handbooks, draft and update policies (such as disciplinary, redundancy, grievance, and flexible working), and produce other tailored documents which your business may need such as onboarding packs, development plans, performance reviews, settlement agreements, bonus plans, job descriptions, interview guides . . .
Why choose to work with me over the hundreds of other HR Consultants?
With me you will get HR support which feels human, not corporate.
I combine legal compliance with a people-first approach. Many HR consultants focus only on ticking boxes and reducing risk — which is important — but I go further by helping you create a workplace where people are engaged, motivated, and able to do their best work.
With me, you’ll get:
Practical, fluff-free advice you can act on straight away.
Tailored solutions that fit your business culture, not one-size-fits-all templates.
Proactive support — I don’t just react to problems, I help you prevent them.
A trusted partner who takes time to understand your business and works as an extension of your team.
The result? You stay legally compliant, reduce risk, and build a stronger, happier, and more productive workplace.
Do you provide training for managers?
Yes — I deliver practical, tailored training sessions on topics such as handling disciplinaries, managing performance, and having confident conversations with employees. Just get in touch to discuss your requirements.
How do we know how much support we’ll need?
We’ll have an initial consultation to understand your business needs, budget, challenges, and priorities. From there, I’ll recommend either an ad-hoc project, a package of support, or an ongoing retainer.
Can you help us with HR Software?
Yes. We are an accredited partner of Breathe HR, a simple, affordable HR system specifically designed for SMEs. I can set it up for you and train your team to use it effectively and if you choose a retainer with us, this is automatically included in your fee.
Can you help us with employee engagement and culture, not just compliance?
Absolutely. My approach always goes beyond ticking boxes. I focus on building positive, people-first workplaces that boost performance and retention.
How much will it cost?
My pricing depends on the type of support you need. I offer:
HR by the Hour charged between £75-£90 per hour.
Ad hoc project work (such as contracts, policies, or one-off issues) charged at a fixed price agreed upfront.
Retained support (a set number of hours each month for ongoing HR advice and guidance) at a monthly fee.
Training sessions priced per workshop, tailored to your business.
This way, you’ll always know the cost before we start, with no hidden fees.
